A pre-shipment inspection checks the completed goods before release, while warehouse checks support receiving, repacking and consolidation. These activities can be combined according to the product, quantity and purchasing risk.

Inspection scope matters. A carton count is different from opening products for detailed checks, and sampling is different from checking every unit. The method, quantities to be checked and acceptance criteria should be agreed in advance. Specialist testing or certification requirements should be discussed separately from routine visual or functional inspection.

A useful finding explains what differs from the requirement and which goods are affected.
